Organisational Capacity Assessment (OCA) tool is a process that seeks to assess the capacity of any organisation across a broad range of topics. It is a crucial tool to be able to establish an effective capacity building plan between partners.

An honest and transparent assessment of capacity is essential for any organisation that implements humanitarian programmes, due to the range of internal and external challenges that can impact on our ability to deliver life-saving activities.

This is particularly true when working in partnership - both organisations must be aware of their strengths and weaknesses to be able to design feasible projects and provide each other with the required support.

This tool can be used by any organisation for self-assessment, but has been designed specifically for use as a tool to support an implementing partnership between two organisations.

The tool that can be used internally for self-assessment, though is designed to be an exercise to assess the capacity of an implementing partner. It can be a one-off or repeated exercise, at predetermined intervals or dependent upon other triggers such as the start of a major project.
